Stepping Out: Road Sense Programme

This week we have Stepping Out with Constable Holly. She is teaching us about 'Road Sense'.

In our first session she talked to us about how we come to school. Here is a picture of the chart we made.

We can read the tally chart. We know that:

  •  one person came to school on their bike.
  • eight people came to school in the car
  • twelve people walked to school
Then Constable Holly showed us the different parts of the road like the kerb and where to stand on the footpath.

On our second session she took us outside for  a walk and taught us how to cross the road safely.
Next we got to cross the road on the zebra crossing. We know that you stand back from the edge of the crossing and wait for cars to stop. Then you need to look right, left right again and you cross but keep looking and watch the cars as you cross.

After that we walked along the footpath and found some sneaky driveways where you have to slowly take a step and look down the driveway for any cars then look right, left right to check it is safe for you to cross the driveway.

Constable Holly said that we have to work on crossing the road safely with our families.

A great session today Room 5. Ka pai!
