Celebrations: Diwali

The topic this term is Celebrations. This week we have been learning about Diwali.

We know lots of facts about Diwali...

  • Diwali is called the festival of lights.
  • Diwali happens at the end of October or early November.
  • It celebrates the Indian New Year
  • People give gifts
  • People celebrate with food
  • People clean and decorate their home
  • People make rangoli patterns
  • People light divas to celebrate
  • There are fireworks to celebrate.
  • It is a special time to celebrate with family and friends
We also read books about Diwali.

Our poem of the week was about Diwali too.

Diwali Art:

We made rangoli patterns.

We also made divas (light holders) for Diwali. Here are a few photos of us making the salt dough for our divas.

After we put them in the oven we painted them and put some glitter on the divas to make them sparkle.

Our divas look so colourful and sparkly!

HAPPY DIWALI!
