Ladybirds

This week for our topic of Mini-beasts we are learning about ladybirds.

We have been learning lots of facts about ladybirds:
  • ladybird or ladybug is an insect
  • ladybirds lay eggs onto leaves
  • ladybirds come in many different colours like red, orange and yellow.
  • ladybirds taste and smell with their antennae
  • ladybirds live for 2 or 3 years
  • ladybirds can fly
  • ladybirds have six legs

A ladybird has three body parts:
  • head
  • thorax
  • abdomen

We are learning to label the parts of a ladybird.

Room 5 had fun making ladybirds.  We used sponges to make patterns on the leaves and then we cut out the red body of the ladybird and printed black spots onto the body of the ladybird.  We also cut out a black thorax for our ladybird.  Then we glued on six legs and the antennae.

We have been learning about the life cycle of a ladybird. We put the pictures in order.
