Cultural Unity Day

Cultural Unity Day is always a very special day at Owairaka School.

Children and staff came to school dressed in clothing from their own culture(s) or another culture of their choosing. We have many different cultures in Room 5.  Look at all the different flags from around the world.

Today we got to dress in special clothes from our culture.

We had an assembly in the morning. We heard children speaking in different languages and everyone went on stage - the special clothing was amazing.

It was great for children to share stories and pictures from their culture.

We also had shared kai from all over the world. It was fun to try different food.

A big thank you to all of our parents for sending along food to share.

This week we had a song of the week instead of a poem.  Here is a video to help sing it at home.

Owairaka Mountain Walk

Today we had our walk up Owairaka mountain. We lined up with our buddies and got ready to go.

We used the zebra crossing to cross the road safely.

We walked up Grande Avenue.

We made it to Owairaka mountain.

We saw people walking lots of dogs, They were very cute.

The view was beautiful of the city.  We saw the Sky Tower.

We saw lots of other mountains too.

We could see Rangitoto in the distance.

We saw roads and lots of houses.

We saw parks and sports fields.

We walked up to the stairs to the trig station.

We all said our school pepeha together.
We had a little rest at the top.
Then we walked down the ridge and through the trees to the bottom of the mountain.

We had to watch out for the tree roots that were poking out of on the ground.

Then we walked back to school.  A big thank you to Meimuna (Eliza's Mum) for being our parent helper on the trip.
